Due to the fact that viruses that are capable of pathogenicity in humans are generally coated and more unstable viruses than uncoated viruses. Therefore, it is recommended to use Virus Transport Medium (VTM) environments for molecular diagnostic tests, after collecting samples (from throat or nasopharynx) to store and transmit viruses such as influenza (types A and B), coronavirus, para-Influenza and other viruses. Virus transmission environments do not alter viruses while maintaining sample quality.
The structure of a suitable Virus Transport Medium (VTM) is designed to be equipped with an isotonic solution containing a protective protein, antibiotics to control microbial contamination, and one or more buffers to control pH.
