Gram stain kit is used to stain microorganisms obtained from cultures or direct smears of clinical samples such as sputum, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), pleural fluid, ascitic fluid, synovial fluid, sample removed from wounds, throat, etc. by differential gram method. Gram staining is now used to correctly distinguish between bacteria with similar morphology, which after staining are divided into two gram-positive and gram-negative groups based on cell color. Such preliminary information provides important clues about the type of organisms and the techniques required for their diagnosis and even the immediate initiation of antibiotic treatment.
