In molecular biology, Tris-Borate-EDTA (TBE) buffer is often used in nucleic acid assays, the most common of which is agarose gel and polyacrylamide electrophoresis. Borate is an important inhibitor for many enzymes, which makes it very common in TBE buffer. TBE buffer is often used for analyzing amplified DNA fragments derived from PCR, DNA isolation protocols or DNA cloning experiments. Agarose gel electrophoresis and polyacrylamide are used.
