MTHFR is a gene that encodes an enzyme called Methyltetrahydrofolate reductase. The two most common types of MTHFR are approximately 30-40% of the C677T mutation population and 20% of the A1298C mutation population. People with these mutations are at risk for thromboembolism and cardiovascular disease but do not necessarily have the disease.
